Mongolian businessmen visit Schönefeld

A Mongolian group of twelve representatives from industry, tourist boards, and a number of other sectors visited Schönefeld. They were welcomed in their native language by perhaps the only mayor in Germany who is fluent in Mongolian, Dr Udo Haase. This was undoubtedly an experience in itself! The business specialists and industry contributors originating from the expansive Asian steppe through to the Altai Mountains visited Germany to familiarise themselves with one of the strongest economic regions in the world. District administrator Stefan Loge also took the opportunity to welcome the Mongolian managers.

The itinerary included a visit to the global logistics company, Dachser, which strategically relocated three hundred employees to a branch office in Schönefeld back in 2007. Branch manager Olaf Schmidt showed his guests around the premises, outlined the company processes, and explained the overall business operations openly and comprehensively. The delegation was then able to gain an impression of the work at the Berlin-Brandenburg “Willy-Brandt” airport, which – when it opens – will be the third largest airport in Germany after Frankfurt am Main and Munich.

The complex building progress and oversights in the overall planning were discussed critically. After all, Schönefeld effectively has an obligation to its Mongolian partner community, a district in the capital city of Ulan Bator, to not only present endless success stories to its guests from the distant country, but also to give them the opportunity to draw lessons for their own projects from unfortunate developments. There was by all means enough to marvel at however, as Schönefeld is a community experiencing rapid, almost explosive economic and population growth.
