The highest quality leads to the best results. J.P. Sauer & Sohn Maschinenbau GmbH is the corporate head office for Sauer Compressors Holding and one of the oldest industry businesses in Kiel. Sauer Compressors is represented around the globe as a leading provider in markets for civilian shipping, maritime shipping, industry and oil & gas.
Dirk Slottke, the head of sales and marketing, and the plant manager Bernhard Ahlke told the Tunisian MP participants about the corporate data, company philosophy and global sales and service network at the corporate head office. “The expectation that our employees have is to deliver low-cost, high-performance products and first-class services around the globe. Quality and reliability are always the main focus – and that applies both to our products and our personal actions,” says Ahlke. Each global region has its own cultural peculiarities that result in different technical requirements, adds Slottke.
Of the four pillars of the company, the MP participants were most interested in the area of industry. Slottke reported on the compressor programme currently running there. Sauer reciprocating compressors with pressures of up to 500 bar are used in the industrial setting in order to control processing and production procedures that require highly pressurized air or gases. Customer care is also a main focus at Sauer. “From the product phase to the sale and after-sales, we are there to assist the customer with advice and individual solutions. We can thus enable the best possible economy over the entire life cycle of the compressor,” explained the manager. The medium- and high-pressure compressors, for instance, are installed in steel plants, the plastics processing industry, and in hydroelectric and atomic power plants. They serve to transfer, modify, mix or compress industrial substances and materials.
The guests from Tunisia were especially interested in discussing the topic of competitiveness. “What does your company do to stay competitive?” asked Mohamed Amin Kallel, managing director of the consultancy Stratos Consultants. Ahlke pointed to the strategic corporate goals of Sauer Compressors: innovation and reliability. In all market segments, the standardised models are subjected to ongoing modification incorporating customer feedback. This product adjustment to current and future industry standards generates expertise important in the market and guarantees a competitive position in domestic and international markets. Also, Sauer develops one new compressor model per year in order to maintain its position in the market. By implementing ongoing development, Sauer compressors can maintain their edge over other renowned competitors.
To continue to achieve involvement with customers and competitiveness, the company is growing worldwide. That now includes Girodin Sauer in France, HAUG Sauer Compressors in Switzerland, Sauer Zandov in the Czech Republic, Sauer Compressors in the United States, the joint venture ELGI Sauer Compressors in India, and other sales and service branches at over 50 locations.
The quality management at the Kiel company particularly impressed Marwin El Amri, the marketing manager at the company Techniques Industrielles & Management because the Sauer compressors fulfil the requirements of nearly every technical inspection organisation and quality control association, such as DNV-GL, ABC, or TÜV.
Very satisfied with the honesty shown towards the questions, even in highly sensitive areas such as products for the navy, the company visit ended for the Tunisian managers with a mutual exchange of contact details. “I hope that someday I can be just as proud of my own company as the employees here at Sauer & Sohn Maschinenbau GmbH are of theirs”, Kallel said.
